Audi turns A1 hatch into an affordable "crossover"

Audi has transformed the A1 Sportback hatchback into an urban SUV with increased ground clearance and plastic trim all around. The model was named A1 citycarver and will arrive at European dealers in the fall of 2019. The raised hatchback is recognizable by the single-frame octagonal grille on the Audi Q, two slots instead of three under the bonnet lip, a stainless steel protective insert in the front bumper and plastic fender flares and sills. In addition, there is almost four centimeters more ground clearance: the suspension lift provided an increase of 35 millimeters, the rest was added due to new wheels. All-wheel drive is not reported. The A1 citycarver has nine body paint options and two contrasting roof colors. The basic version is complemented by the advanced, design selection and S line versions with a combination of interior trim (fabric / imitation leather or alcantara / imitation leather), contour / backlighting and accents in mint, copper or orange.

The set of standard and optional equipment is identical to the A1 Sportback and includes LED headlights, dynamic lights, a spoiler and a wide range of active safety systems.

When ordering the Dynamic package, the SUV's equipment list includes brakes with red calipers, Audi drive select, adaptive suspension and an engine sound generator. Wheels - 18 inches.

The range of engines probably does not differ from the A1 Sportback: a liter "turbo-engine" for 98 or 118 forces, a 1.5-liter "four" with a capacity of 150 forces or a two-liter 200-horsepower unit. Gearboxes - six-speed "mechanics" or seven-speed preselective "robot".

Orders for the new Audi A1 citycarver will begin accepting next month. The car will appear at European dealers in the fall. A welcome edition, edition one, is offered: 18-inch wheels, tinted headlights, tinted décor, contrast roof and mirror caps, and special decals on the lower sections of the rear doors.
